Mary uses a walker and is on oxygen. She needs to get groceries, but doesn’t drive. She hates riding the bus because it is such a hassle and an embarrassment. So, she could wait until she is completely out of groceries, ride the bus to the grocery store, and spend the rest of the day depressed. Instead she has a volunteer to pick up her groceries for her. She sits down with her volunteer, makes a grocery list to her liking, and has the volunteer grocery shop for her. After grocery shopping, her volunteer returns to help Mary put away her groceries and visits with Mary over coffee. Mary’s day has gone from stressful and worrisome to relaxed and fun.

A stay at home mother with a young child was referred to Northwoods Interfaith from Public Services. She just found out that she had cervical cancer and needed to start treatments. All of her family was out of town, along with her husband on business, her neighbors were on vacation, and she had never used daycare in her life. Northwoods Interfaith found her a daycare, so she could attend doctor appointments, get treatment, and even provide services when she was ill. She started not knowing where to turn and found wonderful services.

Joe needs a ride to dialysis three days a week at 6:45a.m. The bus is not an option for him and his family members work full time. Thankfully Joe has a wonderful volunteer who is willing to get up early just so Joe can make his dialysis appointments. Not only does his volunteer take him to his appointments, but afterwards he makes more time to visit with Joe and make sure he feels alright before leaving.

Diana is the primary caregiver for her husband who is in the late stages of dementia. She has had news that her granddaughter has just given birth to a beautiful baby girl. She really wants to go see her, but she can’t leave her husband alone. At first she is distraught because her neighbor, who usually comes over when Diana needs to go somewhere, is on vacation. Then, she remembers that last month she sent in an application for respite care from Northwoods Interfaith. She makes a phone call and the next day a respite worker is available. She was so excited to hold her first great-granddaughter and has continued to utilize the services.
